While Green Hills Library continued to operate out of its current home, plans for a new building, a bigger and better one, were forming within the library board.

Groundbreaking for the new building took place on October 30, 1971. The Library Board budgeted for the $72,000 project without the need for a referendum. However, the Board's plan for the new Library had two stages. The Board's plan included a second part that called for the eventual expansion of the new building.

The old library building closed its doors in December 1971 in preparation for the move to the new building. Unfortunately, delays in completion pushed back the opening of the new building. The new 3,216 sq. ft. Library opened at the end of January 1972, and the formal dedication took place on May 21.
